Welcome to Falcon Family Vet, where our veterinary team performs femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery to relieve hip pain for dogs and cats in Peyton, Falcon, and the surrounding areas.
The hip is a ball-and-socket joint. In a femoral head ostectomy, the “ball” at the top of the thigh bone (the femoral head) is surgically removed. This eliminates painful bone-on-bone contact in a damaged hip.
After surgery, the body forms a “false joint” of scar tissue and the surrounding muscles support the leg. FHO is often recommended for hip fractures or dislocations that cannot be repaired, hip dysplasia, and certain degenerative hip conditions. It works especially well for cats and small to medium-sized dogs.

We walk you through each step of your pet’s care.
Our veterinarians examine your pet’s hip and use digital X-rays to confirm the problem.
We explain the procedure, recovery, and costs, and answer any questions you have.
Your pet is closely monitored under anesthesia and receives pain relief during and after surgery.
Early, controlled movement is important after FHO. We provide an exercise and home-care plan to help your pet build muscle and regain use of the leg.

FHO can give pets with painful hips a more comfortable, active life.
Removing the damaged femoral head stops painful bone-on-bone contact.
Most pets regain good use of the leg after recovery.
FHO can treat hip problems that cannot be repaired any other way.

Falcon Family Vet is proud to provide FHO surgery for pets in Peyton, Falcon, and the surrounding areas. Our practice stands out for:
A femoral head ostectomy removes the ball of the hip joint to stop painful bone-on-bone contact. A false joint then forms to support the leg. Call Falcon Family Vet at (719) 828-7272 to learn more.
The cost depends on your pet’s size and condition. Most pets improve over several weeks with a structured rehabilitation plan. We will provide an estimate before surgery. Call (719) 828-7272 for more information.
Follow our fasting and medication instructions and complete any required surgery forms. After surgery, your pet will need pain medication, incision care, and controlled exercise to rebuild strength. Call (719) 828-7272 with questions.
FHO works especially well for cats and small to medium-sized dogs with hip fractures, dislocations, hip dysplasia, or degenerative hip disease. Our veterinarians will help determine if it is right for your pet.
